I go by A Wire online — a handle that fits the hobby well, since everything in HO slot car racing comes down to the wire: the pickup braid, the power rail, the lane you're running. I've been building tracks and tuning cars for years, and this site is my way of putting that experience somewhere useful. This isn't a commercial operation. No sponsorships, no affiliate links, no agenda beyond sharing what I know about a hobby that doesn't get nearly enough attention on the internet.

HO slot cars run on a 1:64 scale — the same scale as Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, roughly. They ride in molded plastic or routed wood tracks, guided by a small pin that drops into a slot, and powered by electrical rails embedded in the track surface. You control speed with a handheld trigger controller; the slot keeps you on course. The format has been around since the 1960s. Aurora, Tyco, Life-Like, Tomy AFX — these names have defined the hobby across generations. Modern sets from brands like Carrera and Auto World keep the tradition alive, while a dedicated community of customizers and scratch-builders push the engineering side as far as it'll go.

Everything here is written from personal experience. The tutorials cover what I've actually done — not theory pulled from a product manual.
